The "Mittelbau" at the Georg-Elias-Müller-Institute for Psychology

The academic “Mittelbau” (sometimes referred to as mid-level academic staff) consists of academic staff who do not hold a chair of their own. This includes permanent and temporary employees, as well as those who hold positions that are supported through external funding (e.g. doctoral students, scientific employees, temporary academic councils, specialised teachers, etc.). Thus, the Mittelbau represents the largest group of scientific personnel in terms of numbers.

The responsibilities of the Mittelbau representation

As Mittelbau representatives, we are committed to the interests of the status group and use our vote on the executive board (“Institutsvorstand”). In addition, we are contact persons and persons of trust for all members of the Mittelbau within the institute. If there is a need for discussion or clarification, we try to initiate the dialogue internally and between status groups. Members can approach us with problems or conflicts and we try to provide support and mediation. Hereby, we always focus on the interests and needs of the Mittelbau.

The current representatives of the Mittelbau on the Georg-Elias-Müller-Instute's executive board are:

Christian Valuch (1. representative)

Annika Ziereis (2. representative)

We would like to encourage all members of the Mittelbau to contact us at any time. We are happy to answer your questions and look forward to any suggestions. You can contact us via the following e-mail address:

Mittelbau representatives in faculty and institute committees

At faculty level and, of course, at the institute, the Mittelbau also contributes through its own representatives. The following representatives for the Mittelbau are currently active in various faculty and institute committees:

Faculty Council: Dipl.-Psych Andreas Cordes

Examination Committee: Dr. Peter Zuzula, (Stv.) Dr. Nuria Brinkmann

Master Selection Committee: Dr. Nuria Brinkmann, (Stv.) Dr. Christian Treffenstädt

Study Committee: Dr. Thorsten Albrecht

Finance Committee: Dr. Thomas Schultze-Gerlach

Meetings

We regularly convene Mittelbau meetings. In addition to networking across departmental boundaries, these meetings are primarily intended to provide an opportunity to discuss current issues and developments affecting the Mittelbau, to ensure the interests of the status group and to prepare decisions for the board meetings. In order to prepare resolutions for the executive board, which may directly or indirectly affect the Mittelbau and which require a broader discussion, we also organise additional meetings. The aim of these meetings is to take into account different opinions and needs, in addition to reaching a consensus for votes.

Minutes

We provide the minutes of all Executive Board meetings on this page to make our decisions transparent for all members of the Mittelbau. We also aim for high transparency in controversial and non-unanimous Board resolutions and therefore explain our votes in comments in the protocols/minutes. These can be found in a protected subdirectory, which can only be accessed by members of the Mittelbau. If you are a member and would like to view the minutes, please contact us. We can provide you with the necessary access data.
