The role of emotions in moral judgment

The traditional approach to moral judgments emphasizes the role of rational deliberations. This approach has been challenged by theories that highlight the important role of emotions in moral judgments. In this project we use event-related potentials (ERPs) and pupillometry as implicit measures to gain a better understanding on the role of emotions in moral judgments as well as explicit and deliberate moral judgments. In addition, this project is motivated by research on the influence of political attitudes on morality. We are testing large samples of conservative and progressive subjects to measure the influence of individuals’ political orientation on morally associated agents, using again both behavioral and EEG measures.

Methods

EEG, pupillometry, behavioral measures
