Rowan studied biology (B.Sc.) and German (B.A.) at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. In 2015, Rowan made the move to Göttingen, where she completed a master (2018), followed by a doctorate (2022). For her dissertation, entitled ‘social information sampling and decision-making: An evolutionary and ontogenetic perspective’, Rowan conducted research at the German Primate Center in the department of Prof. Dr. Julia Fischer and at the University of Göttingen in the department of Prof. Dr. Hannes Rakoczy.

After completing her doctorate, Rowan shifted into Science Management. In 2023, she helped to coordinate the funding acquisition process of the Research Training Group 2096 Curiosity. Since 2024, Rowan is responsible for coordinating the new Research Center Human Cognition and Behavior (HuCaB) and the PhD study program Behavior and Cognition (BeCog).
